I love that this company has a fun science category of toys! Over the next 4 weeks I will be introducing you to the Nat Geo Outdoor Explorer toys and giving our review. This week it's all about daytime fun with the All Terrain Nature Collector, Earth Tag, and 4-1 Navigation Tool.
I do have to tell you that when we received our box of toys, I don't know who was more excited to go through them, my Macaroni Kid, or Macaroni Poppa, aka the Hubs! So these toys are great to experience together and not only encourage exploring fun but family bonding time. You know we love that!
The first day we tried out the 4-in-1 Explorer Navigation Tool.
I enjoyed being able to show and teach our Lil Mac Kid more about North, South, East, and West on the compass. It also has a thermometer, whistle, and signal mirror. And the best feature, it has a clip so you can hook it to a belt loop so it doesn't get dropped or lost when out on a fun nature hike.
Next we played with the All-Terrain Nature Collector.
This mechanical arm is used to grab and collect items found outside like rocks and sticks and leaves but if you have a child like mine that is so curious about bugs and critters then it's perfect for grabbing them without having to actually touch them. She enjoyed catching roly poly bugs, watching them in the enclosed dome, and then setting them free. My daughter cracks me up, she will tell me, "Momma, I'm going to get that bug, but I need a bow in my hair first!"
The last toy we checked out was the Earth Tag.
At first glance I thought it was a sling shot that was going to get her in trouble but rest assured this toy is a ball of fun!
This is an "Aim, Launch, Score!" type activity. You "tag" different things found outside like trees and rocks and take the time to learn about them. This game is for ages 8 and up but with proper supervision, younger kids can enjoy it too. Just be sure to let them know what are appropriate targets like the trees, rocks, grass, ground, and what's not appropriate targets like, you, siblings, pets, cars. :)
What I love about all of these toys is they all come with a Bonus Activity Guide that helps you come up with games, exploring activities, and scoring so that the kids are not easily bored with so many playing and learning possibilities. And I love that it keeps her passion growing for learning outside and keeping the TV turned off saves me electricity!
